Backbone Campaign presents This Is Home
Wednesday, May 14, 6pm
Vashon Theatre, Vashon, Washington
Admission is by donation and open to the public
Backbone Campaign is hosting a one-night screening of the documentary This Is Home: A Refugee Story at Vashon Theatre on May 14 at 6pm. The screening is co-sponsored by Vashon Resettlement Committee and is part of the Backbone Meaningful Movies film series.
This Is Home is a Sundance Award-winning film; an intimate portrait of four Syrian refugee families arriving in America and struggling to find their footing. With only eight months of help from the International Rescue Committee to become self-sufficient, they must forge ahead to rebuild their lives in a new home: Baltimore, Maryland. They attend cultural orientation classes and job training sessions where they must "learn America" -- everything from how to take public transportation to negotiating new gender roles.
Admission is by donation to the Backbone Campaign - no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
This film event was made possible thanks to the generous support from Vashon Theatre and Island Green Tech.
